We're recruiting board members

We're currently seeking new board members, to advise and support Wigan STEAM over the next three years. We are currently going through a period of re-visioning in order to ensure our work is of maximum benefit to our stakeholders, so this is a really exciting time to join our board.

Our board, along with the Directors and Executive team:

  • Provides valuable insight and advice to help the organisation to grow

  • Ensures that the organisation is achieving what it sets out to, on behalf of the community and our funders

  • Tests and criticises the organisation’s activity

Board members attend quarterly meetings during which they:

  • Review the organisation’s previous activity, future planning, and finances as reported on by the Executive Director

  • Advise the Executive Director on relevant issues based on your experience and expertise

  • Have a say in decisions that affect the future direction of the organisation

We are seeking individuals to join Wigan STEAM’s board with some of the following areas of experience and expertise:

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

  • HR/Legal

  • Education

  • Fundraising

  • Accountancy, banking and finance

  • Government/public services/local authority

  • Socially-engaged arts practice

  • Local, regional and national cultural policy and strategy

  • Digital Marketing/Website Development

We are also keen to include important voices from the community in our board, and so are seeking:

  • A freelance artist living and working in Greater Manchester

  • A parent/carer/guardian of a child or young people living in Wigan

  • A young person (16+) living in Wigan

These individuals may or may not have some of the above listed experience and expertise we are looking for.

Previous board experience is not required.

Though knowledge of the arts and community sector is valuable for this role, we are seeking to recruit a broad range of experience, expertise and insights to support the organisation. It is not essential that your professional experience relates to the arts and community sector.

Wigan STEAM is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and we aim for our workforce and audiences to be truly representative of all sections of society. We particularly welcome expressions of interest from people who are currently underrepresented in the UK arts sector.

Deadline: Friday 14th January
