The nerves have settled, but the excitement remains as I enter my second month working at Everyday Wigan, taking the role of creative projects assistant. I didn’t know what to expect from this new chapter - entering the creative field - but I can surely say it didn’t disappoint!
I remember my first day like it happened yesterday, the important decisions were made: what do I wear? What food do I pack? Should I play it safe and get the earlier bus? (Thankfully, I did. You can never trust Standish traffic.) All that was left was to meet the team I would be spending the next three months with, and to my relief, I was greeted with nothing but warm smiles and welcoming attitudes. Phew.

I quickly discovered that no two days will be the same. I have assisted with the delivery and preparation of art workshops for young people, helped with the blog and website, and joined in running a stall at ‘Tallulah’s Takeover’ selling our creations. This fulfilling journey lets me combine my experience with English and journalism with my passion for art and creation. I couldn’t be more thankful.
It’s only been 4 weeks, but the amount I have learnt and grown can’t be quantified. Gaining first-hand experience within an arts organisation has helped to prepare me for living my life as creatively as possible, introducing me to roles and possibilities I never knew were possible.

Mondays have now - surprisingly - grown to be one of my favourite days of the week. I have the opportunity to help my colleagues at a local primary school to deliver a workshop for neurodiverse pupils. It’s a gift to watch their confidence grow, help take their minds away from the real world, and watch them create. Later in the day, I assist with a pottery night that is open to the general public, I help with the preparation and tidying, guide and encourage attendees who have disabilities, and attempt to sculpt something myself.
I wouldn’t have enjoyed this adventure half as much without the constant support and warmth from my team at Everyday. Their enthusiasm to give me new opportunities has given me confidence that will carry me anywhere.
Georgia has joined the Everyday team through the Curious Minds Curious Works Placement Programme.
