Saying goodbye to Digital Families!

We can't believe we've come to the end of our Digital Families programme! Over the last few months we have been taking over Wigan Library and Leigh Library on a Saturday morning to run fun, family workshops to spark your digital creativity! The programme was free to attend and gave families the opportunity to take part in digital workshops at an easy to reach place with all equipment provided. The sessions had a different theme each month and we welcomed in a host of fab, tech savvy facilitators!

February - Stop Motion Animation

To kick off the programme, we started with a Stop Motion animation session. This involved using plasticine to create our own mini characters and to create animations. Think Wallace & gromit style!

March - Introduction to Beatboxing

We welcomed our first guest facilitator in March - Renegade Beatbox! Chris helped us to have a dance and make some noise as we learnt the basics of beatboxing with microphones, a loop station, speakers, story time and lots of silly sounds!

April - Intro to Coding with Micro:Bit

In April, we taught our group all about how to code in Micro:Bit. Our Digital Families left knowing the basics of coding and how to create a flashing message on Micro:Bit!

May - Digital Masterpieces

Artist Liz Chapman joined us in May for her Digital Masterpieces workshop. Liz set up a fun and vibrant still-life scene and demonstrated how to use digital drawing apps to create beautiful digital artworks!

July - Minecraft School

In July, we wrapped up the programme with Minecraft School by Gemma Potter. In this session our young Minecraft experts were tasked with teaching their grown-ups how to make creative structures in the game!

We’ve had a brilliant few months working with inspiring artists and facilitators, and we’ve loved meeting so many creative children and their grown-ups too - all 106 of you! We thought we'd share a few of the comments we received from our lovely participants:

Leave a comment below if you joined us for any of the sessions, we’d love to hear what you thought! ⬇️
