Looking back at SteamFEST!

Last month we took over Leigh Library and Wigan Library for our annual SteamFEST - a celebration of digital art and creative tech! Here's a round up of what we got up to...

At Leigh Library, we welcomed the Face Lab team with their facial depiction software, volunteers from Wigan & Leigh Archives and illustrator Lisa Michelle who let us have a look at her beautiful sketchbooks! We also brought along some of our Republic of Wigan goodies!

At both sessions, we kicked off with Lee Robert McStein's (Monument Men) 3D printed Lion workshop. In Leigh, we were recreating the lost lions of Lionsbridge, while in Wigan Library we were taming our own Haigh Hall lions! Lee taught the group about the lion's importance to it's respective hometown and how to drybrush the 3D model to look like a realistic stone statue.

Next up we got messy in the Slime Making Workshop! Emily from Wigan STEAM showed the group how to create a bowl of the slimiest slime using household products.

The final workshop of the day was Introduction to Beatboxing with Renegrade Beatbox. Chris got us all dancing as we learnt the basics of beatboxing and how to tell a story using microphones, a loop station and lots of silly sounds!

A huge thank you to Leigh Library and Wigan Library for letting us host SteamFEST and to all of our wonderful facilitators who made it so special. If you came along to our workshops or to visit our stalls, we hope it sparked your digital creativity!

We'll see you next year! 👋
