Celebrating ceramics at the Festival of Everyday Creativity

Our exhibitions “For Alicia: A Place To Come and To Feel Good” & “We’ve All Got Life Stories, All Different” are displays of work by the wonderful creative community we have formed in Clay Club and Pottery Night over our shared love of ceramics. Including these exhibitions in our festival was a no-brainer, as the participants embody what we are celebrating and championing - Everyday Creativity!

Clay Club is a weekly ceramics session. Developed at Everyday when we saw the need for a daytime group where those facing barriers to the arts can come along, participants can have a bite to eat, socialise and learn a new skill. It offers a space for creative expression, connection, and wellbeing and since its inception in 2023, a strong sense of community has flourished. Currently finishing its second year, our Clay Club, along with artist Anna FC Smith, have developed “Exhibition For Alicia: A Place To Come and To Feel Good”  in memory of a beloved Clay Club member who passed away earlier this year.

Alicia’s words, collected during an interview about her experience of Clay Club, have become the title of both shows, reflecting the group’s gratitude, connection, and shared memories. The works created by the group come together in “Exhibition For Alicia: A Place To Come and To Feel Good” that presents a garden of colour, hope, and reflection and perfectly represents Alicia’s warmth, kindness and love of colourful dungarees.

Clay Club’s first two years were funded by The National Lottery Community Fund Awards For All and we want to say a huge thank you for their support in growing this important community.

The other half of our pottery community comes from our weekly Pottery Night, facilitated by Anna FC Smith. Running for over 5 years, Pottery Night has become a staple of Everyday’s programme with regulars who join us each week and bring a breadth of wonderful ideas to inform their pottery making.

We’re so excited to share some of their work with you in “We’ve All Got Life Stories, All Different”, an exhibition that explores everyday folklore, memories, and personal stories. The works reflect family histories, personal tales, and the legends that shape our identities. You can also see pottery by Clay Club on Tour (pottery sessions held in care homes across wigan) and other mediums of art work in this exhibition by The Creative Collective (Everyday’s youth programme) and Mini Makers (our under 5s art programme).

Both exhibitions are presented as a part of our Festival of Everyday Creativity running in Wigan from 16-17 May and Leigh from 22-24 May 2025.
